Description
Vintage Vega Fairbanks Whyte Laydie 5-String Banjo, No. 2, Original Pot and neck with matching serial numbers 50412 circa 1921. VGC. Video Tour https://youtu.be/5hAQJmpXxYwThis classic banjo is in fine playing condition and sounds great. Maple neck and pot, scalloped ‘Electric’ tone ring installed in all WL banjos , 10 15/16” pot, comfortable 27” scale, hardware looks to be original or period and the plating is in very good condition however some hooks show more tarnish (see photos). Unique vintage tailpiece with moveable posts - very cool. This No. 2 has an ‘inverted’ tone ring something found on both Fairbanks and some Vega Fairbanks. This tone ring was designed to have the scalloped points pointing towards the pot rather than the head. Unusual and… unusually nice sounding. Original 4 peg head tuners and replaced old stock 5th peg. Small repaired crack near this peg is glued and a hardwood bushing added to support the repair - solid. The bone nut is old stock and a replacement bone 5th string nut installed. About three inches of treble binding by the pot was missing and has been replaced. Smooth to the touch and feels right. Better color match with the right dyes would improve the blend with the original binding. This banjo comes with a new TKL hard shell case that retails at 9.00. Good protection for this top quality vintage banjo. Domestic sale only on this one. USPS or other top carrier insured shipping. Prompt returns for any reason accepted. That’s how I like to shop.
